Work With BJP

BuckingJam Palace runs on volunteers, a small board, and one part-time staff position. Here is what is open and what the work actually involves.

  • Volunteer at Concerts

Concert nights need people at the door, at the bar, and afterwards with the dishwasher and the chairs. Loading the dishwasher and folding chairs and sending notes of encouragement is a large part of what built this community. Volunteers see the concert. Write to Wendy, our Volunteer Coordinator, and she will find you a night.

  • Join the Board

The BJP Music Foundation is governed by a volunteer board that meets monthly, currently on Monday evenings for about an hour, with more work around annual reporting and the AGM. Board members share authority with the Executive Director and the Artistic Director. When a seat is open it is listed below with the real duties and the real time commitment.

  • Committees

We are forming a fundraising committee and a venue search committee. If you know Calgary real estate, grant writing, or how to ask a company for money without flinching, we would like to hear from you.

    Commitment

Six to eight hours a month, including the monthly board meeting. Minimum one year.

    What the role is

The Treasurer keeps the BJP Music Foundation financially honest and in good standing with the CRA. You work with our bookkeeper to make sure transactions are recorded properly in QuickBooks, build the annual operating budget with the Executive Director, bring updated financials to every board meeting, and advise the board on risk and on keeping funds secure. You may act as a signatory and will have access to bank accounts, so a police check is part of the process.

    Who we are looking for

A degree in accounting or finance, comfort with QuickBooks or similar, and the organizational and communication skills to explain a balance sheet to a room of jazz fans. Non-profit experience is an asset. So is a real interest in music, gender equity and fair pay for artists, because those are the things the money is for.

    How to apply

Email Aimee-Jo Benoit, Executive Director, with a short note on how you meet the requirements. We will ask for a resume if it goes further.
